Make or Buy

For a strategic project at a large European retail company that sells high-quality goods and delicacies to end customers via its online shop and in its local store, we initially dealt with the evaluation and (partial) outsourcing of the logistics department.

We started with a make or buy study for the company’s self-operated central warehouse. In the first step, the study assessed six scenarios. Qualitative factors such as strategic fit and flexibility as well as quantitative effects on the net present value were examined over a usage horizon of fifteen years. Subsequently, three selected scenarios were subjected to a detailed feasibility study at the tender level. One was finally chosen for implementation.
